Are you a young Lebanese person looking for a job? Or maybe you already have a job but need freelance work to make ends meet? Are you tired of visiting offices and depositing your resume, knowing that you probably will never hear back from them?
Social media might be able to help you. The strategic use of online tools like LinkedIn, a fast-growing “Facebook for professionals,” and job sites can help you connect to colleagues you already know, and those who can help you get ahead.
In February, Social Media Exchange, in collaboration with recruitment specialist Mary Roepke, will host “Career Development with Social Media.” Delivered in two half-day workshops, this training will introduce you to the world of social media for networked professionals and show you how the Web and social networking can help you reach your goals. RSVP now.
The first workshop will introduce LinkedIn and guide you through the setup of a professional profile. Roepke will then share tips on how to search for useful connections and offer best practices for asking for referrals and recommendations. The second workshop will build on the first and show participants how to enhance their profiles through other social media applications as well as focus in maintaining a high level of professionalism when presenting yourself online.
Roepke has a BA from George Washington University in the United States and an MA in from Radboud Universiteit in The Netherlands. She has recruited upper management and executives for Dutch and international companies active in telecommunications, financial services, and industry. She has also worked as an in-company trainer, giving courses on business English, negotiations, and presentation techniques.
