For its 2013 microgrant awards, Rising Voices, the outreach arm of Global Voices Online, is seeking submissions from individuals, grassroots groups, networks, and organizations who have ideas about how to help local communities leverage citizen media. You can browse their projects page to get a sense of the kind of citizen media initiatives they’ve supported in the past.
This year, Rising Voices is trying something new: Applicants can share their ideas publicly during the application process on a new platform. By making the process more transparent, the Rising Voices crew hopes to “enable greater opportunities to seek feedback and to help facilitate connections between groups located in the same geographic area or working around the same issue.” Of course, it also means you can check out the competition.
Only four proposals have been submitted so far from Arab countries: Egypt, Mauritania, Palestine, and Qatar. Time to get to work.
Get everything you need to know about submitting an application in English and Arabic.
Proposals are due one week from today on Friday, March 1, at 23:59 GMT.
