Job Overview
We are seeking a Film Producer to lead the production of a short film (15 minutes max) that focuses on feminist activism in the digital space. The film will highlight the experiences of online feminist activists as they confront societal, cultural, and political challenges, particularly around content moderation policies, censorship, and advocacy for human rights. The story will be based on real-life events and research from SMEX’s study on feminist activism.
Responsibilities
- Develop a compelling narrative for the film based on research findings from SMEX’s Research, illustrating the struggles and triumphs of feminist activists advocating for human rights in the digital realm.
- Conceptualize and script a short film (max 15 minutes) that centers around the experiences of an online feminist activist. Highlight barriers such as Content moderation policies, Online harassment, political instabilities and Cultural and social backlash.
- Collaborate with the Project Lead, Research Team and Media Unit to ensure real-life events and insights from the study are incorporated accurately and sensitively into the script.
- Oversee all aspects of production, including casting, location scouting, and coordination of the film crew, ensuring a high-quality, polished final product.
- Supervise the post-production process to ensure the film aligns with the project’s goals and resonates with the target audience.
- Deliver a 15-minute completed short film by November 15, 2024 that encapsulates the feminist experience in advocating for human rights online.
Qualifications
- Having a bachelor degree or still pursuing a degree in Fine Arts, Communications, Film Production, Cinematography, Multimedia Journalism or any other relevant university degree
- Prior experience in producing short films or documentaries, particularly those related to social issues or advocacy.
- Strong understanding of feminist perspectives and online activism, with the ability to translate complex social and political issues into engaging narratives.
- Ability to create emotionally compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences, especially in the context of social justice or human rights.
- Prior Experience in all aspects of film production, including pre-production, direction, and post-production editing.
- An understanding of the cultural and political challenges faced by feminist activists, particularly in regions where activism is restricted.
