Welcome to Lebanon! Photo Contest

A few enterprising photo-lovers launched a contest today for the photos that best capture that all-too-familiar saying, Welcome to Lebanon!

The group wants publish a set of postcards this summer, “with pictures of those ‘only in Lebanon!’ moments…like seeing a car reverse in the middle of the highway, or the fact that there is valet parking at McDonald’s…” The postcards will be printed and sold to benefit Nasma, a local charitable program dedicated to offering children from low income families in Lebanon access to libraries, multimedia facilities, and computer labs.

Photogs of all sorts are asked to submit their pictures to submissions@welcometolebanon-postcards.com by June 21, 2009. Meanwhile, you can visit the Facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=80452625741) or the website (www.welcometolebanon-postcards.com) for more information. A Flickr group will also be up and running soon.

I can’t think of a better way for Lebanon to release some of its pre-election tension by laughing off the ludicrous with a few snapshots of the land we love.
