Advancing human rights requires the capacity to innovate tactics for comprehensive strategies that can address the complex problems our communities face today.
For more than a decade, the New Tactics in Human Rights project at the Center for Victims of Torture USA has worked to create unique resources that enable activists worldwide to build their skills and apply their strategic and tactical capacities by sharing promising new approaches and creating hands-on tools for analysis. One such resource is a practitioners’ workbook that includes more than 100 tactics that can be adapted and incorporated into a range of human rights initiatives.
This short video describes New Tactics’ mission:
We’ve known about New Tactics and Nancy Pearson, since participating in Tactical Tech’s 2009 Info-Activism Camp, where we first tried some of New Tactics’ innovations, including the spectrum-of-allies tool. With this in mind, SMEX is proud to host a workshop with New Tactics’ Nancy Pearson on September 27.
The half-day workshop “5 Steps to Tactical Innovation” will include training on methodology, tools, and ideas for tactical advocacy and also highlight available resources and opportunities for engagement. It is open to activists and civil society organizations working in Lebanon. The language will be English, and the deadline to register is Friday, September 23, 2011.
