We are looking for a Policy Analyst to work with the Policy Unit on analyzing different policies, laws and legislations on Digital Rights, in the SWANA region but internationally as well.
Responsibilities
- Follow, monitor and document regional developments on areas of importance to human rights online. This includes content moderation on different platforms, business & human rights, misinformation and disinformation, cybersecurity, government surveillance, platform accountability and more.
- Develop policy recommendations for different areas of human rights online.
- Provide research, legal analysis, policy analysis and legislative analysis.
- Support the Policy Unit on different projects on privacy, SRHR policies, dangerous organizations and individuals, telecommunication laws, freedom of expression, advocacy and more.
- Write blog posts and reports.
- Work alongside the Advocacy Officer in the preparation phase of the advocacy campaigns as well as post-campaign to assess impact.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration within alliances or with partners and stakeholders to uphold digital rights.
- Help develop the team’s knowledge on policies that respect human rights online.

- Ability to link between policy and technology.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proven ability to produce well-written policy papers and communications material.
- Strong organizational skills, and ability to meet and prioritize multiple deadlines.
- Thorough understanding of the challenges that new technologies pose to human rights and the importance of policies in protecting human rights.
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in Arabic is a plus.
Education and experience:
- Educational background in law, political science, international relations or public policy preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience working on technology policy and law, digital security or international affairs.
- Experience working in civil society, public sector, in grassroot organizing and/or a regulatory environment preferred.
- Good understanding of Digital Rights and adequate knowledge of the WANA region.
